Orfila Earns International Recognition
Winery has earned more than 1,300 medals in prestigious national and international wine competitions since April 1994, amazing the wine industry with the quality of wines produced in San Diego County.
In 2007, Orfila’s estate-grown “Lotus” Lot #45 received a gold medal at the 31st annual Bordeaux, France Challenge International du Vin, a blind wine tasting competition of 5,288 wines from 38 countries. Orfila was one of only three U.S. wineries honored with a gold medal, the competition’s highest award, earned by fewer than 5 percent of the entries.
The Estate “Lotus” Lot #45 also received a gold medal at the recent 2007 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, the largest competition of American wines with 3,800 entries. Lastly, it received 98 points out of a possible 100 at the California State Fair Wine competition in Sacramento.
Among the medals on display at the winery are 26 Double Gold Medals, 213 Gold Medals, three Platinum medals, several “Best of Class” medals, and the award for “Best U.S. Red Wine” given to the 1999 San Diego Syrah “Val de la Mer” by the 2002 Atlanta International Wine Summit.
